What We Do

Our Mission

Our mission is to foster a love for mathematics and help members develop their problem-solving abilities. We are dedicated to empowering young mathematicians, encouraging critical thinking, and creating opportunities for students to grow in their mathematical journey. By hosting and participating in math competitions, we aim to inspire confidence in students while building a supportive math community around us.

Our Club Meetings

The Design Tech Math Club meets weekly during Flex period on Mondays. During these meetings, members come together to share ideas, collaborate, and learn from one another. Guided by our club mentors, Ms Dy and Mx Atkinson, advanced math teachers at D.Tech, we sharpen our mathematical thinking through team problem-solving. In preparation for math competitions, we practice with past problems, sharing our solutions with teammates. We also plan and prepare for our club events and competitions to deliver the best experience for all participants. Join us to connect, grow, and share the joy of math!

Competitions We Participate In

We regularly participate in well-known competitions like the BMT, SMT, AMC, and BAMO. These competitions provide our members with the opportunity to challenge themselves, meet like-minded individuals, and represent Design Tech in prestigious math events.

  • Berkeley Math Tournament (BMT): An elite, student-organized competition that brings together top math students from across the nation to tackle intricate individual and team problems across multiple topics.

  • Stanford Math Tournament (SMT): A prestigious regional competition hosted by Stanford University, designed to challenge high school students with unique and thought-provoking problems that emphasize creativity, depth, and mathematical intuition.

  • Caltech Math Meet (CMM): A highly competitive math contest hosted by the California Institute of Technology, featuring rigorous problems that test advanced problem-solving skills, logical reasoning, and mathematical insight across multiple subject areas.

  • American Mathematics Competition (AMC): A nationwide series of competitions (AMC 10 and AMC 12) that challenge students with advanced mathematical problems and provide pathways to higher-level contests, including AIME, USAJMO, and USAMO.

  • Bay Area Math Olympiad (BAMO): A proof-based mathematics competition that attracts top students from the Bay Area and beyond. BAMO emphasizes rigorous reasoning and creative problem-solving, mirroring the style of national and international math olympiads.

Competitions We Host

Puzzle Night (December): A fun and challenging event for middle school students in the Bay Area, where they can test their logical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Problems of the Day Challenge (February): A five-day, online individual math contest where a new problem set is released each day, including a proof-based question designed to develop rigorous reasoning.

Math Tournament (March): An exciting math competition for middle schoolers across the Bay Area, designed to inspire young minds and foster a competitive yet collaborative spirit.

Club Leadership

The leadership of our club is essential in the operations of our club. The president and vice presidents work together, coordinating various activities, while the director of competitions is responsible for organizing and promoting our events and competitions to maximize participation. Together, they create a lively atmosphere that encourages growth and connection among our members.

Our Sponsors

We would like to thank our sponsors for supporting the Design Tech Math Club. Their contributions make it possible for us to host our annual competitions and attend various math tournaments. We’re deeply grateful for our sponsors’ commitment to fostering curiosity, collaboration, and a love for mathematics in our community.
