Design Tech Math Tournament
The Design Tech Math Club is hosting our biggest competition of the year, the Design Tech Math Tournament (DTMT), on March 8th. This is a competitive yet welcoming event for middle school students in the Bay Area. Competitors face a variety of creative individual and team problems in algebra, geometry, number theory, probability, and combinatorics that reward clever thinking and careful work. Modeled on established contests such as Mathcounts and other college-run competitions, the tournament gives students a chance to test their skills, learn new strategies, and meet other like-minded students!

This year's DTMT features an exciting and varied lineup of math challenges. Students will begin by selecting two Subject Round tests from a set of topics: Algebra, Geometry, Discrete, and a specially designed 6th Grade Test. Next, participants will team up for two collaborative rounds: the Team Round and the Sequence Round, where strategic thinking and teamwork take center stage. The full problems and solutions manual will be posted live online after each round ends. After the competition, students can take part in an Activities session featuring math Jeopardy, math games, and Professor Ciprian Manolescu's presentation on Knot Theory. At the same time, any Tiebreakers will be resolved in a fast-paced, Mathcounts-style Countdown round. The tournament will conclude with a Closing Ceremony where winners and prizes will be announced.
DTMT will run from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with lunch and snacks provided. Early registration runs until January 25, and a $5 fee will be charged to help support our event. For full details, please see our competition handbook.
